Our Journey

How we began

In the late 1980's, our Senior Pastor felt a burden for the Northern part of Singapore - it was largely undeveloped at the time and considered "ulu" - a remote part of the country, with the main significance being the place to pass through in order to travel to Malaysia (Johor Bahru) on land. There were a few churches in Woodlands and none of them were Assemblies of God congregations. Rev. Chng's vision was to establish a work in the North to provide respite for ministers travelling between Singapore and Malaysia.

1) Gillman Heights - We began as a Bible study and prayer meeting fellowship in the late 1980's.

2) No. 3 Woodlands Road

Under the Assemblies of God Home Missions Department, our Church name and logo were determined and we began Worship Services and started the process of registration with the Registrar of Societies and Charities. At the same time we established our CARE AND SHARE fund & The Mustard Seed Singing Group.

As a pioneering church, we also helped Bethel Church take care of their outreach work (Canaan Centre) in Johor Bahru, with Rev. Chng and several members shuffling weekly between JB and Singapore during the weekends.

Local Missions also had a need: CARE helped the struggling Contemporary Christian Church for a period by renting their premises to hold our services (at No. 3 Woodlands Road) and giving half of our weekly offering collection to them.

Rented Premises

3) 2 Jasmine Road

Our journey continued as we moved to a new rented premises at Jasmine Road. By now, our Worship Services, Prayer Meeting and Cell Group were in place. Here we focused on various outreach ministries such as cooking competition and skits and our regular attendance grew.

4) Bukit Panjang (pictured right)

Rented ACTS Baptist Church premises and started our Children's Ministry.

5) Upper Bukit Timah

Rented Centre of New Life premises for Sunday Worship Service.

Moving into Woodlands

6) Woodlands Street 31 Blk 302

Growth in Children's Ministry

Began Children's Club and Students' Club

Children's counselling

Here, children began to be filled by the Holy Spirit

New Milestones

7) Marsiling Apartments

Developed Children's Ministry through:

- Computer Club

- Cell Group leading and Prayer Meeting for children

- Worship Ministry for students (drums, guitar and keyboard)

During this time, CARE was registered with the Registrar of Societies and Charities as an independent Assemblies of God church.
